Ear Cuffs! What's all the noise about?

Welcome back ear cuffs! Yes, you read it right. These are not a new invention but were actually considered hip in the 90's. They made a major comeback in 2013 after Jean Paul Gaultier brought them back to the runway in late 2013. Of course, this time around, like everything else they are much more fashionable.

By 2014 these had made their way to India, and Orne Jewels was one of the first to introduce them to the Indian consumer. Of course, we had to add an Indian touch to it, and hence while these are typically worn only in one ear, a lot of designs now available in India enable you to wear a pair.

One great thing about these is you don't need a pierced ear to wear them. Lots of styles simply clip onto the upper ear or hook onto the ear, allowing girls without a pierced ear to enjoy them.

Here is one that simply clips onto the cartilage of the ear.

Styles like this one simply hook onto the ear with no danger of falling off.

Those that have their ear pierced need not be disappointed. Simply wear one of these ear cuffs and pair it with a stud.

These became so popular that ever startlets started to flaunt them. From Hollywood to Bollywood, no party was complete without at least one celebrity wearing one of these. From Sonam Kapoor to Kajol to Sonakshi Sinha, everyone is now sporting them.

India has even gone ahead and given these the ethnic touch for those who prefer traditional ethnic jewellery. Jhumkas were added along with american diamonds and pearls to make elaborate beauties that although are typically worn in both ears. The sky is now the limit when it comes to imagination and innovation in design.

With the trend growing exponentially, fine jewellery designers did not want to be left behind. And needless to say some of the ear cuffs they have designed are spectacular. Off course, the price tag ensures that they remain exclusive, but they are definitely on everyone's wish list!

The western world stayed true to it's style preferences with designs that are elegant and chic. Check out Christina Ortiz's 9karat rose gold plated ear cuff.

Indian jewellery designers on the other hand continue to retain their touch of opulence. We are fans of Gehna's diamond stud ear cuff with pearl strings.

So you're tempted, but now you're wondering how to wear it. Follow our simple tips to ensure you carry off this accessory in style.

Style Tip 1

Go minimalistic with other jewellery. If you must wear another earring with it, go for a simple matching ear stud. You want your ear cuff to be the star of the show. Heavy necklaces or head gear will distract from the cuff.

Style Tip 2

Wear you hair in an updo. This is best for showing off the ear cuff. If you are wearing the ear cuff in one ear you can also do a side sweep. Both hair styles ensure maximum exposure of the ear cuff. See pictures. Sonam and Sonakshi are both wearing the same ear cuff. However, Sonam is wearing them in both ears and hence the updo, whereas Sonakshi has worn only one and hence styled her hair in a side sweep.

Style Tip 3

Last but not least ensure that the style of your ear cuff matches the style of our outfit. If your outfit is casual and western choose a punk style ear cuff whereas if you are dressing up for the night choose something more elaborate and in tune with your outfit. You can now find various styles to match every budget both online and in stores near you.

The ear cuff earring trend is continuing to grow and is here to stay. So if you haven't already hop on the bandwagon and get yourselves at least one of these trendy pieces for your wardrobe. Buy ear cuffs online in India here.

Oh and before you go, we'd love to show you one of our personal favorites! Love how this guy sits on the ear. Bold yet subtle, striking and beautiful.

Bejewelled - Who shone the brightest at the 2015 Star Guild Awards

The New Year has started and along with it the series of award shows. Star Guild kicks off 2015 with their show last weekend. This was truly a collection of stars shining brightly as they sashayed across the red carpet in their favorite designers. Let's look at some of the highlights from the night. Some of the stars who were "bejeweled" the best :)

One of our personal favorites at this show was Urvashi Rautela. While her jumpsuit was interesting, we think her diamond dangler earrings with ruby accents were absolutely gorgeous and are now on our wishlist!

Statement earrings continue to be the much favored trend though. While a lot of danglers were spotted, Chand Bali earrings continue to remain popular a la Deepika Padukone and the ladies of the Roshan family.

Long dangler earrings were well carried off by both TV and film stars, case in point, Shraddha Kapoor. And Boy were there some phenomenal pieces on display! Psst - we love how these leading ladies subtly fiddle with their hair to show off their baubles!

One lovely lady who went traditional in clothing but experimented with her jewellery was jury member Divya Dutta. She wore these lovely gold leaf earrings which dropped down on one ear and sat like an ear cuff on the other. These looked gorgeous paired with her lovely purple saree and the striking bindi.

However, a lot of celebrities also went without earrings. We thinks they were following what was somewhat prematurely announced as a trend earlier this year - going minimalistic or even without jewellery.  Kriti Sanon did however wear a gorgeous black and gold statement ring which complemented her Guarav Gupta gown beautifully.

Lisa Haydon, however, went completely bare with jewellery. While she looks lovely, it's easy to see that somethings amiss, especially when you get up close.

Priyanka (love the orange!) went minimalist on her earrings and chose her necklace as her focus piece. In our opinion, this was the right move. As the gown was an off- shoulder, accenting it with a necklace called attention to her beautiful visage and the amount of jewelry she has on is "just right". Her Mawi neckpiece, while it did complement her dress, does cater to people with a specific taste. The necklace has skulls crafted on fangs!! Last but not least, her honesty was refreshing "Everyone is disappointed when you don't win. It's just the truth".

And not to be left out were the studs! Stud earrings that is :) Jacqueline went with what we believe is a look that can never go out of style. Bold Stud Earrings. Suitable for every age group, these can be paired with western and ethnic outfits with comfortable ease. Do check out our range of bold studs, our clients love them as we have some spectacular designs. Jacqueline chose Gehna Jewellers for her earrings and they do not fail to catch the eye!

And that is the roundup of some of the jewellery highlights from  the 2015 Star Guild awards. Stay tuned for our upcoming posts on trends for 2015!
